Dewa Ruci Story
Dewa Ruci is a god encountered by Bima, one of the Panca Pandavas, when traveling to find the water of life. The story of Dewa Ruci illustrates an attitude of respect from a student (Bima) to his teacher (Drona), independence in acting, and a hard struggle in finding indentity.
It is said that Bima was being ordered by his teacher (Rsi Drona) to look for the water of life or "Tirtha Amerta", so that Bima could achieve perfection. But this was only the teacher's strategy so that Bima would not participate in the Mahabarata war that was being prepared.
He left for dangerous places that had been setup by Rsi Drona. Bima headed for Mount Candramuka where he met two ferocious giants, namely: Rukmuka and Rukmakala. A fight ensued between Bima and the giants. Bima defeated the giants but did not find what he was looking for. Then he herds a voice from Dewa Indra and Bayu, stating that the water of life did not exist in that place. Bima finally returned to Astina and met the teacher.
Rsi Drona argued and this time he ordered Bima to look for the water of life in the ocean. Bima firmly returned to carrying out this order even though his brothers had tried to remind him that this was a trap.
Arriving at the edge of the sea, Bima made up his mind and confidence so he could reach the ocean floor. Bima meets Naga Neburwana, a ferocious, fanged and deadly dragon. There battle occurred between Bima and Naga Neburwana, where the dragon's body wrapped around Bima tightly.
Bhima, who was in a pinched and overwhelmed position, remembered the powerful magic on his nails. Finally, he thrust his nails on the dragon's body and Bima managed to defeat Naga Neburwana.
Next Bima meets Dewa Ruci, a figure with a small stature and similar to Bima. He was ordered to enter the left ear of Dewa Ruci. Bima finally saw a vast world. Dewa Ruci said that the water of life is nowhere to be found, and it is useless to look for it everywhere, because the water of life is within man himself.
Bima's feelings became bright and happy after receiving an explanation about the life given by Dewa Ruci. Bima attained perfection because of being willing, respectful, alert, and always humble.
