This is my first time visiting this beach, a hidden gem surrounded by green rice fields and a peaceful rural atmosphere, Kedungu Beach Tabanan. This is a beautiful low-laying grayish black sandy beach, just west of Tanah Lot. The spot is away from crowds and not so many people. You can enjoy breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean, sea cliffs, transparent blue water and calm environment. This is a great place to refresh your mind.
This spot is situated in Belalang Village, Kediri, Tabanan Regency, Bali. This spot is easily accessible by car and less than an hour from Ngurah Rai International Airport.
You can reach it through the Jl. Raya Canggu to the Jl. By Pass Tanah Lot. Follow this road until you hit the Jl. Pantai Kedungu in Beraban. Then continue on the same road in Belalang Village and the beach is situated at the southern end.
Arriving at the beach, you will be charged with a low parking fee. The parking is big, quite shady and has a spacious view out to sea. There are a few food-stalls where you can get some snacks, local food, drinks and fresh coconut water.
The parking area is rather high with concrete seawalls, while the beach is below. This seawall is designed to resist the force of waves and storm surge. This is also a cool spot to just sit and relax while enjoying the panorama and blue water more freely.
There is a beautifully arranged garden to the east. This is a nice garden with natural low cliff backdrop, some banana groves, lights, and equipped with the sign "Pantai Kedungu”. This is a favorite photo spot for visitors as well as an elegant place to relax.
Along the access road to the beach, you will be accompanied by panoramic views of the lush-green rice paddies and Balinese traditional houses. You will also be greeted by a street art work "The Fat Hog", painted on the wall of a restaurant.
Most of the locals here still work as farmers and fishermen. There are temples near the river and also some traditional boats owned by local fishermen. This beach is a landing place for fishing boats. In the morning, you can spot the activities of fishermen who have just returned from the sea. This is a unique sight; a group of fishermen help push the boat together with all of catches on it.
This beach hosted Balinese customary ritual, the Melasti Ceremony. This is a ritual held every year before Nyepi Day. On this day Balinese will flock to bring sacred objects from nearby temples (statues, lelontek, tedung, etc.) to the beach for purification.
The beach is thick with local flavor. Some Hindus are seen in traditional costumes enjoying the panorama and the calm atmosphere at the beach edge. This is truly a stunning panorama, amazing beach adorned with coral rocks, beach cliffs, big waves and coconut groves in the distance.
On the right side, there is a river estuary and right next to it is Belong Beach. This river mouth sometimes has a lot of garbage. Even so, the beach atmosphere is quite clean and comfortable. Many people participate in maintaining the cleanliness of the beach, not only local people and authorities but also foreign tourists who come here. It really deserves deep appreciation.
While on the left, there is a high coastal cliff, extending to the end complete with large boulders and lush greeneries on it. Around the cliff there is a small waterfall with large rocks. The water comes from a small river (irrigation channel) from the rice fields above it.
There are some large rocks which seemed to have been cut. It was said that many people in the past used to mining the "padas stone” around the beach with traditional tools and left some rocks that had been cut.
At the very end there is a large boulder that juts into the sea with mounds and green grass on it. There is another access road to this spot, through the "Candi Bentar" (entrance gate) before the beach. You will pass a hardened limestone road with green rice fields on both sides. This spot is often called, "Kedungu Cliff". From this spot you can enjoy amazing panoramas in almost all direction.
While next to it there is a secret beach, the Panggungan Beach. You can go down to the smooth sand, there is a clear little river and you can go up to the next hill. There are some cows that graze and roam here. This is a miracle and if you are lucky, you can enjoy all this beauty just for yourself.
This is a favorite spot among surfers. Kedungu Beach has become a magnet that attracts many surfers to come and enjoy a fun surfing experience. The spot offers powerful and fat waves. This spot is recommended for beginners up to advanced surfers. There is also a surfboard rental. This spot is close to other famous surf spots, such as Tanah Lot Beach and Yeh Gangga Beach.
This beach is a good surf fishing spot and worth a try. Some anglers were seen waiting enthusiastically. While other is seen getting a strike from sand whiting fish.
At low tide, this is an expanse fine-smooth sandy beach and dotted with rocks. You can enjoy the clear sea water, explore the rocks, beach soccer, morning yoga, beach-side jog, or sunbathing. This spot is not recommended for swimming and wading due to strong waves and sea currents.
The beach is relatively quiet in the morning, fewer people and no hawkers. You may encounter local dogs. This spot is recommended for family vacations during the peak season. This is a nice beach for kids to playing sand with accompanying parents. This spot is perfect for a half-day outing to get some fresh sea breeze and relaxing.
Visitors are usually crowded during the sunset. The beach is located on the West Coast of Bali and endowed with spectacular sunset panoramas. It creates a romantic atmosphere along the coastline. You can spend the time here, have a serene walk along the sandy stretch, enjoy the laid-back feel and let the day go by.
