Pagerwesi ceremony is held by Hindus throughout Bali. Pagerwesi is derived from the word "Pager" (fence) and "Wesi" (iron). This iron fence symbolizes the firmness of faith and protection.
People will focus their attention on strengthening their hearts and making sure their minds, speech, and deeds are free of negative things, which can harm themselves and the environment. This is a good day to do yoga or meditation.
The procession of the Pagerwesi ceremony begins with decorating and installing "Wastra" in each shrine / pelinggih (wastra = cloth devoted to decorate shrine or sanctuary). Balinese will wear their traditional costume, while carrying the offerings and placed it in each pelinggih or shrine.
This ceremony is followed by praying with the whole family. Worship starts from shrine that exist in each household (family shrines). Then continued to other temple in Banjar or neighborhood, and other temples or Kahyangan Jagat.
